The Hobnox Audiotool

The Hobnox Audiotool is an incredibly cool online app that allows you to create music with either of two drum machines (one is an 808), a Tonematrix (an online version of a Tenori-on), a bass synth, and your choice of twelve effects pedals. You can record up to five minutes of the music or loops you create. I could see entire albums worth of cool music coming from this app.

Hours of Fun

Remember when I said I couldn't tell the difference between Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

I discovered www.totallylookslike.com when I was trying to remember the name of the chef that Dom Deluise (R.I.P.) looked just like.

I was delighted to see that the people at totallylookslike.com have noted some remarkable similarities between...well, just about everyone and everything. For instance:

The Covers Project

This is a really cool idea. Say you love a song and want to know if someone else has done it? Maybe you hear a song that sounds incredibly familiar and you're just sure it must be a cover song. Maybe you love a band and would like to know if anyone has covered one of their songs or if they have done any covers of other bands. Or possibly you're in a band that wants to do a cover song that no one has already re-done.

Check out The Covers Project, a database of songs that have been re-recorded by other artists.

NashvilleChrysalis.org

I just posted the brand new NashvilleChrysalis.org website I designed for the Nashville Chrysalis Community.

The Chrysalis/Emmaus experience is a ministry I strongly believe in and support. Chrysalis is a three-day experience for teens that is designed to strengthen the church. Check the website for info.

Face Recognition: The Jennifer Coomer Edition

looks like...

Nicky Hilton, Andie McDowell, Sharon Tate,
Kathy Bates, Linda Hamilton, & Molly Ringwald
Fair enough.

Here's where it gets weird and I start having a particularly fun time.
Remember, this is science. I'm getting this from The Face Recognizer.
You can't make stuff like this up...

Jennifer Coomer looks like...

Juan Antonio Samaranch
WOW.

Bam Margera

Ashley Olsen (but not Mary Kate...she's a hag)

Jennifer Coomer, you're new nickname is totally Samaranch.

Face Recognition: The St. Phransus Edition

looks like...

Cliff Richard, Artie Shaw, Sidney Poitier, Jaques Villeneuve,
Denise Richards, Audrey Tatou, Claude Lelouche, Stefan Zweig,
and Barry freaking Manilow.

The beloved blogger is a paradox. A French/German/African-American
with classic teen idol looks and a smoking hot body.
His name was Lola. He was a dancer.

Face Recognition: The Gavo Edition

Gavin Richardson looks like Julio Iglesias. It's really true.
I'm not so sure about the Selma Blair and Jessica Alba.

Gavo, you are pretty and sultry.

A second take

So I went back to the face recognizer.

And in this picture I look like:

Jake Gyllenhall (excellent), Adrien Brody (I can see that), Roger Daltrey (maybe I can play him in a movie...there's already one coming out about Pete Best), Jeff Buckley (ooh, ooh, um, maybe I can play him in a movie)...and then it gets weird...

Diddy. P Diddy. Puff Daddy. Sean Combs.
Yes, I'm the white Diddy. Okay, I can see that.

But these are much weirder:
Ken Follet, Luis Figo, Mikhail Saakashvili, Dino Zoff
(I have to be honest. I have no idea who any of them are.)

So...yeah, now I'm going to put some of your pictures in here and have some more fun...

A Truly Fun Website

Apparently I look like Frank Zappa. And David Schwimmer. Oh and Liv Tyler.

Go to http://www.myheritage.com and upload a picture of yourself. The Face Recognition software will tell you what celebrity you look like. Of course each picture of you probably looks a little different.

I don't really like the picture of myself I uploaded but here's what happened. I have a feeling this website is going to be fodder for several more posts.

Google Bombs Away for New Year's Day!

So thanks to Julie and Jennie I've become fascinated by "google bombing" again. Google bombing is the act of linking a particular word or phrase to a particular site so that when you search google using that word or phrase that site rises to the top. It only takes a few sites or blogs to make that happen. This is why when you google the word failure or miserable failure the whitehouse.gov bio of President Bush pops up first (just below it are Jimmy Carter's bio and MichaelMoore.com).

So, I want to try an experiment. Hmmm... how about best band ever? Oh, well yeah we're not... but it would be pretty nifty to see that pop up on Google.

Now, I will link it a few more times from other sites and see what happens. I've found Blogger is actually the best way to get into Google's directory though. So: best band ever, best band ever, best band ever, best band ever, best band ever. There, that oughta do it.

Stay tuned. Oh and try linking that to http://www.knapsackheroes.com. Humble boys are we.

Some Santa Fun

My friend and youth director Jennie Murray passed this along to me. Very funny.

Go to http://www.santasez.sig-ad.com and type an action for jolly St. Nick to try.

So far I've tried:
Scream
Jump
Eat
Rap
Rock out
Throw Up

And my favorite...(Jennie pointed this out) Trash the room.

(Okay, my real favorite was "screw".)

Tenneessee Bloggers

I just discovered the Tennessee Bloggers website.

You may already know about this... I didn't until Shaun Grove's wrote that his Schlog had won an award for Best Nightlife and Music News Blog. (It is a good site.)

I'm wondering why some of the blogs I read regularly didn't get a nod for "Best Faith-Based Blogs".

Anyway, check the site for yet more blogs to add to your Bloglines (or whatever RSS thang you use).

Eric Coomer The Website

I have been working like a mad man to get my site up and running. It's now up.

Go to www.ericcoomer.com for music, bio, live dates, and the all new merchandise page.

That's right get your Eric swag on. Stickers, buttons, CDs, shirts, so forth. The shirts and CD will be coming soon. I'm hoping to get them in by the May 21 show at Caffeine.

Finding places to play concerts has been difficult so far. If you know of one. Email me.
