So long but not "so long"

It's been so long since I cared enough to write on this blog. I grew weary of writing about myself. So I started focusing on worship and music and music in worship and alt worship. So I started mostly just posting one music video and one movie trailer every week. Then I got tired of that.

Here's what's going on with me:
  • Daphne's due any day with our second child, Evan
  • My office/studio is gone in favor of a room for Evan
  • Jackson, our first child, is 3½ and the pride of my life
  • We're attending McKendree UMC in downtown Nashville and love it
  • My band, KNAPSACKHEROES! is still working toward superstardom.
*Or at least toward getting a freaking album done
  • Pray for my dad. He currently has pneumonia and it's not looking good
  •
Lastly, in the recent year I've fallen back in love with the electric guitar. Well, I never fell out of love with it, so I should say I've fallen more deeply in love with the electric guitar and much more in love with effects pedals.

So, in addition to continuing to post trailers and music, you should expect to read about my thoughts on guitar gear...all this despite the fact I currently don't play guitar in my band. I have been playing at church a lot and though I'm leading worship once a month, I've found it incredibly freeing to play while not actually being the leader on other Sundays (we have a great leader in Anthony Mangin - and he has really great guitar tone).

Anyway, stay tuned for whatever. I shall not say "so long" to you just yet.

Look for more updates at the official Eric Coomer website.

    "Sunday's Coming" Trailer

This is so good I'm gonna post it here, on Twitter, and on Facebook. But I'll start here and wonder (as always) if anyone even visits my blog.

new thing in my life number 2 - providence umc in mt juliet, tn

I've been going to Grace UMC for about 9 years, much longer than any church I attended growing up because my dad was an itinerant United Methodist pastor. To my recollection the longest I ever lived anywhere was four years, so that was how long I attended the church too.

So, it is with much sadness / excitement / fear / excitement / wonderment / trepidation and calling that Daphne, who has attended Grace or St Paul (the church that joined with Mt Juliet UMC to become Grace) her entire life, and I are leaving Grace in the fall/late summer to join and help start Providence United Methodist Church in Mt Juliet.

Indeed, we will be the worship leaders and are already listed as "co-directors of music worship".

Rev. Jacob Armstrong is the pastor of Providence and we are very, very excited about ministering with him.

We held an Easter sunrise service and around 150 people attended! The church will officially launch in August. Our next worship service will be
Sunday, April 20 at 6 PM at Rutland Elementary School behind Providence Marketplace at 1995 S. Rutland Rd. We'd love to see you there.

    A Survey of Hymns

Got an email from the United Methodist Publishing House you should see...

You are invited to participate in an online survey by telling us your ten favorite hymns. You may choose any ten selections in any combination from The United Methodist Hymnal (1989) and/or The Faith We Sing (2000). The survey consists of the alphabetical listing of both books' contents and a check box for each title. You simply click on your ten selections. You may find it helpful to think about your selections prior to actually completing the survey, perhaps even by browsing through the hymnal and making a list.

After selecting up to ten of your favorites, you will then be asked to select up to ten selections of your LEAST favorite hymns and songs, or titles that you wish had not been included. Once again, you may select up to ten titles from either or both books in combination.

The survey will not allow you to select more than ten titles. After choosing your selections, you will be asked to respond to five demographic questions that will help us in analyzing the survey. Your participation and responses are confidential and anonymous. You will not be asked for your name or identifying personal information.

This information will be used to help us plan for future resources in congregational singing and in identifying changes and trends in musical style. We are grateful for your participation and ask you to encourage your friends, your children, your congregation, Sunday School classes, students, professors, pastors, choir members, church staff, -- any United Methodist - to participate. It is our hope to have as wide a participation as possible.
