Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Mute Math - "Control"

I am anxiously awaiting Mute Math's full length debut album. Their EP has been a regular in my CD player for...gosh, has it been almost two years? Wow.

For now you can only get it at their shows. They'll be in a town near you, check it out: www.myspace.com/mutemath.

Since they aren't coming to Nashville until March, I'm enjoying this MP3.

I very much want Knapsack Heroes to tour with this band.

Free Legal MP3s of the Week - Over The Rhine Christmas Live Stuff

OTR is probably my favorite band in the world. Here are two songs from their December 10, 2004 show at Birdy's in Indianapolis.

Silent Night

All I Ever Get For Christmas Is The Blues

Jingle Bells

Enjoy!

OTR is in town tonight at Third & Lindsley but it's $18 a piece and we're broke. So I'm listening to the concert these came from here.

P.S. Go to Jonathon's blog and download the Sufjan Stevens Christmas stuff before Asthmatic Kitty Records hand the beloved blogger a cease and desist letter.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Jeremy Needham - "Dearly Loved"

May I just say that this is a dope song?

Jeremy Needham - Dearly Loved.

I can't find his site and he's not a MySpacer...but you can go here for more.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Greg Adkins - Are You Out There Tonight?

There are weeks when I just put music up because I like the music. And then there are weeks when I want to say something. Those are the weeks that are difficult. This song isn't really what I want to say but here it is anyway.

Greg Adkins is a great songwriter (you may know him from emergingminister.com and his 52 Songs in 52 Weeks" series) and this is a great song. Hear more of his music at his site and at Grassroots Music.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Knapsack Heroes - "Misfit Me"

Last week I finally added one of my songs as a legal MP3 of the week.

This week I add my band, Knapsack Heroes. This is Knapsack Heroes - "Misfit Me". I am nowhere to be found on this track. Nor can I be found on the CD. This is pre-Eric stuff.

The band has changed quite a bit since this CD came out.

You can see us live during the National Youth Workers Convention in Nashville. We'll be doing a show with other Fuselage Artists at Rocketown on Sunday, November 20 specifically for NYWC registrants (but anyone can come). It's free and open to the public so please, please, please come out and show some love.

Go to the Fuselage site or the Knapsack Heroes MySpace to hear more music from the CD. And check the MySpace at the end of the week for a song we're doing with Treefinger for the newest Worship Feast book.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Eric Coomer - "Reach Out To Me (Live at Grace)"

Call it humility, but I've never put one of my songs up on this blog site as a "Legal MP3 of the Week". So, here you go. Let me know what you think.

You can hear more of my songs at www.myspace.com/ericcoomer.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Stafrænn Hákon - Kofi

I may not be able to pronounce it but I know I like it.

If you like Sigor Ros as I do, I think you'll really like Stafrænn Hákon. You can hear more from this really great site: http://www.3hive.com/archives/2004/12/12/stafrnn_hakon.html.

I discovered 3Hive through Jonny Baker's WorshipTricks (where one is apt to discover a lot of nifty links).

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - The Choir - "Mercy Will Prevail"

  1. I love the Choir.
  2. What a timely song! I wish I'd put it up last week.

Download more of their timely songs at The Choir MySpace.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - The Innocence Mission - What A Wonderful World

I searched for about three hours for an adequate MP3. I thought about songs of hope and strength. I thought of a ton of Waterdeep songs, a ton of Nichole Nordeman songs (like We Build from her latest album). I thought about New Orleans jazz. I thought about Louis Armstrong, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr. I couldn't find anything.

Then, I stumbled upon this gem (a cover of a Louis Armstrong classic no less) by one of my favorite groups, The Innocence Mission. As I listened to it, with the images of CNN in the background, I began to weep. So I share this song with you.

Oh God, may we remember to see the beauty in your world--even in times such as this. Amen.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - L.A. Symphony - "Timeless"

I've been a big fan of L.A. Symphony for a long time. This song epitomizes why... yes hip hop can still be positive and uplifting - profanity free even. And when this crew thanks Christ they don't sound like hypocrites.

Timeless is a new song from their forthcoming album Disappear Here.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - Tyler James - Come Off Cold

This week I had a hard time picking an MP3. I wanted to find something that either summed up the way I felt tonight or got me out of the mood I was in. Somehow I think this may do both. Tyler is a Nashvillian with some great music. I've seen him around several times at shows and have never said anything to him. I will next time.

For more of his music go to his myspace: myspace.com/tylerjames

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - TreeFinger's "Trainwreck"

I have not posted a free MP3 in a long, long time.

This week's legal MP3 download comes from our friend Jonathon and his musical adventures in TreeFinger. I'm a big fan of electronic music for worship and TreeFinger's soundscapes work very well indeed.

So here it is:
Treefinger - Trainwreck

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - June 6

Instead of the typical MP3 this week, listen to all of Coldplay's X&Y on MTV.com's The Leak in full digital quality.

It's an amazing album and I don't care how broke I am, I'm buying this CD tomorrow when it comes out. Best Buy has it for $9.99.

This stream only lasts this week on the site.

Free Legal MP3 of The Week - Steve Taylor - Jesus Is For Losers

Steve Taylor - Jesus Is For Losers from the album Squint (1993)

Two things:

  1. This may not actually be legal but like I said a couple weeks ago, nearly all of Steve's music is inexcusably out of print.
  2. I had a really hard time deciding what Steve song to post... so go to the site I got it from:
    http://www.onfritz.com/TaylorDownloads.html
Aw heck... here are a couple more links:

"Harder To Believe" from the album I Predict 1990 (1987)
"Escher's World" from the album Chagall Guevara (1992)
"On The Fritz" from the album Liver (1994)

Seriously, go to that site and download everything.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - May 23

Alex Roller - Oh Blessed God (Recorded live at Emergent San Diego)

This was our theme song during the week at the Emergent Convention in Nashville. There were three songs written around one chorus.

It was a joy to work with Alex last week. He's a great guy.

For lyrics and MP3s for all the versions click here.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - May 16

Eisley - Telescope Eyes

With Star Wars Episode 3 coming out this week I figured I'd give you some Moss Eisley. Well, that's what they used to be called 'til George Lucas made them change their name to Eisley.

I'm a big fan of Eisley. I actually like the original version of this song from their first EP better, but this is the MP3 available.

Enjoy.

Free Legal MP3 of the Week - May 9

Denison Witmer - Breathe In This Life

One of my favorite songs of all time. If you don't know Denison's music... do yourself a favor and invest in a couple of his CDs.
