Today, for once, MTV is actually Music Television. For FIVE commercial-free hours they will re-broadcast the Live8 concerts. And unlike last weekend, they won't incessantly interrupt the music with silly interviews.
I just saw the London portion. The Who and I've decided that they are the best rock and roll band in the world (again). It's also been cool to see some of the artists that were involved in Live Aid. I remember watching that all day long 20 years ago. For instance, George Michael. Shut up, he's good. That's why he was up there with McCartney. Also, Robbie Williams should be as famous in America as he is in England. The man is a freaking rock stars and we don't have enough of those.
I honestly cried a little when I saw everyone on stage at the end of the night. Paul McCartney, R.E.M., Coldplay, Pink Floyd, The Who, Annie Lennox, Mariah Carey, George, The Killers, Keane, and of course Bob Geldof. The list goes on and on. It was so hopeful--so jubilant. I hope it did something more than provide a night of excellent music.
If you haven't gotten involved, get off this stupid blog site and go to Live8. Do something.
