Somewhere near Kansas City, I am sitting below a framed poster of the St. Pauli girl. St. Pauli is a beer and the girl is a buxom blonde with stewardess hair, heaving cleavage and 3 beers in each hand. Have I mentioned I'm sitting on the cot where I'll be sleeping tonight and tomorrow? Yes. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm in Missouri or Kansas.
Anyway, I'm very excited to be in Kansas City for Worship Connection. I don't want you to think I'm not. It's just... well...
Here are the characters you may or may not need to know for this story:
Ken - my pastor
David - my church's director of Christian Education and Programming
Mark - Ken's brother-in-law
Daphne took Ken, Dave and I to the airport at 6 a.m. this morning. We boarded our Southwest flight to Kansas City where we were greeted by Mark in his 80's Kutlass Supreme (is that how you spell it?). From there we went to his bachelor pad to drop our stuff off.
Then Mark drove us to his home church, The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. This place is enormous. I mean, it's hard to believe just how big it is. Mark introduced us to Adam Hamilton, the pastor of COR, and he was very kind. We heard him speak twice today and I have been very impressed with him.
I went to a workshop David Bone led on incorporating traditional elements in worship. Very good workshop. I laughed, I cried (during a Christmas narrative reading with Christmas carols), I worshipped.
Tomorrow starts with an emerging worship experience from Dan Kimball and the Jacob's Well band. I'm very, very excited about this. I'll also go to more workshops, including one Dan is leading on emerging worship. We hope to bring back some great things to Grace United Methodist in Mt Juliet TN.
Unfortunately I can't hook up to the internet to post this (I'm using Bloggar)... so I'll post it when I get home. More later.
